Activity log¶
Every link created or removed through Issue Link Guard is recorded. The log answers the question Jira's History cannot answer when links are created by the app's account: who actually asked for this link?
Where to find it¶
Open an issue and, in the Activity section, select the Issue Link Guard tab, next to Comments, History and Work log.
The tab lists the changes made through the app on this issue, newest first:
| Entry | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Person created the link blocks XYZ-2 | A link was created through Issue Link Guard. |
| Person removed the link blocks XYZ-2 | A link was removed through Issue Link Guard. |
| via technical account | The app's account made the change on that person's behalf. |
| The link … selected by person when creating this issue was not created | A link chosen on the create screen could not be created; the entry gives the reason. |
Each entry shows when the change was made, and the other issue's key links to that issue.
Who can see it¶
Anyone who can view the issue can view its activity log.
What the log does not show¶
- Links made through Jira's own "Linked work items" section. They appear in the issue's History.
- Links removed by Jira itself, for example when the linked issue is deleted.
Names in the log¶
The log stores Atlassian account IDs, not names. Names are read from Jira when the tab is shown, so they are always current.
- A person whose Atlassian account was deleted is shown as Former user.
- An entry from which a Jira administrator removed the person is shown with Anonymous user.
Settings¶
A Jira administrator decides how long entries are kept, whether and when they are anonymized, and whether the log is recorded at all. See Data and privacy.
When the log is turned off, new changes are not recorded and the Issue Link Guard tab disappears from issues. Existing entries are kept and come back when the log is turned on again.
When the log's database is almost full, the tab shows a note asking users to tell their Jira administrator. Links keep working even when the database is full; only new entries stop being recorded.
